Likes:
Being with his siblings ;; Yao's siblings are very important to him, and, as a result, he is rarely - if ever to be found away from them. Even if they do argue so much, they're still important to him. Catch him denying it. Even though they are such good friends, though, they argue with surprising frequency.
Pandas ;; There isn't any particular reason for it, but Yao is particularly fond of pandas. He thinks they're cute, or similar. I don't know. It might be his protective instinct (the one that only exists when the fancy takes him to be protective), due to the fact that pandas are a protected species or maybe it's something else, but he really likes pandas.
Art ;; Yao has a natural flair for art, so, naturally, he is fond of it. He can't draw manga, though... Everything else, he's very good at, but manga? Not his thing.
Cute things ;; Yao is really fond of cute things - Hello Kitty, Pandas, that sort of thing.
Ivan (sometimes) ;; This is a bit on-again, off-again: Yao is usually quite cautious of Ivan, but there are certain times when he isn't so hostile. Mostly when he and his siblings argue (which happens frighteningly often), or when he starts thinking, because thinking has a nasty habit of making him think about his siblings, and he will think about Kiku and then remember when Kiku attacked him and... generally, it was all go rapidly downhill from there. Sad, but true.
Tea ;; Maybe Yao likes tea because of Arthur (who introduced him to it) or maybe there's another reason, but he likes tea. He's just oddly fond of tea, for some reason.
Chao Fan (fried rice) ;; If asked, Yao will determinedly stick by the fact that Chao Fan is a staple food.
Cooking ;; See? There are advantages to being a fussy eater! He's a good cook, which is because he's a finicky eater.
Yong Soo (sometimes) ;; Despite the fact that the two of them do sometimes argue, they are generally inseperable. Yao will protect him, and, when Yong Soo isn't acting like an immature little idiot (Yao's words, not mine), he'll protect his older brother.
Dislikes: (Five at the least)
Yong Soo (sometimes) ;; When Yong Soo annoys him (by trying to clain his breats...), Yao develops a great dislike for him.
Ivan (sometimes) ;; Sometimes, he and Ivan argue. Mostly when Ivan comes up behind him. He's kind-of touchy about that sort of thing, mostly because he's a bit afraid of being stabbed in the back (since Kiku came up behind him when he stabbed him and all).
Pain ;; Self-explanitory. If he possibly can, Yao will avoid anything that will cause him pain. And that involves Kiku, yes. And romance, because he has got it so deeply ingrained in to his brain that falling in love will cause him pain that he just... he avoids situations that might involve him falling in love.
People touching his back ;; This is due to the scar on his back. Generally, if you touch his back he will slap you. Or get upset, but more often slap you, so avoid touching his back.
Being accused of doing things he didn't do ;; Self-explanitory, but it really annoys him.
People insisting upon the invisible bond between him and Ivan ;; Just because they sometimes hang around together doesn't mean they are friends. They. Are. Similar. Not friends.
People saying that he copies other people ;; OK, maybe he does occasionally, but it still really irritates him. In his view, everything is copied from something, so, with that logic, the person he is copying copied someone else's design. He's still copying, but it makes it seem less bad in his eyes.
Natasha ;; Ivan's little sister... who creeps Yao out immesurably. Something about her (maybe it's the fact that she's constantly carrying a knife or other weapon) seriously disconcerts Yao. It's like she's out to kill him or something - which she probably is, but still. It's creepy.
Nonsense thoughts

Personality:
In general, Yao is the sort who can be written off as a dim-minded, controlling
Fears:
Pain ;; Maybe it's because of the constant uprisings in his country or maybe it's due to what Kiku did to him or maybe it's something else, but Yao (along with having a low tolerance for pain) is quite frightened of things that will hurt him, and will generally avoid them if he possibly can. It's probably a bad thing that he's here, in that case.
Ivan (sometimes) ;; He's really scared of Ivan sometimes. Something about him just terrifies Yao. He doesn't quite know why he's so frightened of him (maybe it's because of the Cold War and Sino-Soviet Split), but he's terrified of Ivan.
Kiku ;; As sad a state of affairs it is to be afraid of one's own little "brother", Yao is frightened of Kiku, because of all the things he has done to him. He will not stoop so low as to let Kiku do anything to him. Anyone else, he will let do anything to him. It's just Kiku.
Weaknesses:EverythingLow self-worth ;; Maybe it's because he is masochistic or maybe there's another reason, but everything - in his mind - is his fault.
Pacifist ;; Generally being the last to pick up arms, Yao is easily targeted in wars and fights, and, unless he sees a great threat to his well-being (like, threat of death), he won't fight back. Also, he generally won't attack first. As a result of this, Yao has quite a few scars and injuries, some (most) of which have since healed.
Kind and caring ;; Sometimes, being caring can mean that he gets unjured, or taken advantage of, like by Kiku.
Superstitious ;; Yao is very superstitious. In his mind, everything that so happens to go wrong can be blamed on something superstition-related. It annoys quite a few of the other nations, though.
Inability to draw Manga-style art ;; ... ... ... Yao thinks it's a weakness...
Strengths:
Kind and caring (generally) ;; In general, particularly where young nations are concerned, he is a very caring sort of person, and quite pleasant to be around (but that's only in general. Annoy him or a young nation he's taken under his wing and you have an enemy for life).
Artistic ;; He's good at art. Not much to be said about this one, really (although he isn't much good at Manga artwork. And when he draws himself he looks like a girl).
Good cook ;; I suppose that this one goes with being a fussy eater. But he's very good at cooking, yes.
Sees things in an unbiased way ;; Maybe it's because he sees everything as the 'same shade of grey', but he's pretty good at resolving arguments, due to his unbiased view (I'm pretty sure he hates everyone, actually).
Doesn't take insults personally ;; He really doesn't mind what you say, and will continue to smile (if somewhat blankly), no matter what you throw at him. Maybe it goes with one of the other qualities of maybe it's something else (his genetics? I don't know), but he seems to be almost immune to being insulted. Generally. If his family are insulted, though, he has a change of heart and will become rather fierce.
Highly protective of his family ;; If he's insulted, he just takes what you throw at him. If someone he doesn't like is insulted, he might get a little offended, but he won't do much. If you even try to pick on a member of his family (even Kiku), then he will instantly hate you. For. Ever.

History:
A long time ago ;; China born to Ancient China and an un-named woman in the court.
China, surprisingly, started life as a stuck-up, irritating (and irritable) young man. He was just as childish as S.Korea is now, if not more so. It was obvious that he was going to be a good person, but it would just take a while for him to notice. And for the entire court to stop hating him, but still.
A very slightly less long time ago ;; China and Korea meet for the first time.
Yao met, at one point, a young boy called Korea. He was sweet and very small, with chocolate-brown hair and brown eyes, and, as Yao soon discovered, his mother had recently died. Because he was so kind-hearted, Yao adopted the boy, and acted as though Korea - Im Yong Soo - was his own son, even though the boy knew in his heart that they weren't related. And so began the East Asia family.
Around the same time ;; Meets Taiwan for the first time, and realizes that Vietnam is his twin sister.
China then met a young girl, whose name was Taiwan, who he called Mei. Mei, too, had lost her parents, and Yao also took her in and looked after her, and the family grew - again.
It was until Yao realized that the young girl in the court who followed him around all the time (and looked almost exactly like him), called Vietnam, was his twin sister, that he stopped acting like a stuck-up brat.
Not long after that ;; Meets Japan.
And then, he met Japan.
"Ugh... Every day another political struggle, and my body aches even more, aru," China murmured darkly, shaking out his hair and wincing as his hand touched a cut, and he accidentally moved a pulled muscle. "Oh," he murmured, looking anxiously ahead. There was a small boy there (the same size as Korea and Taiwan had been when they were little, in fact). "I have not seen him around before, aru," China said to himself. "Maybe he is a new nation, aru?" Amber eyes narrowing slightly as blows were exchanged somewhere, he walked over to the new nation.
"Hey, aru," he said. The small nation didn't start, or even move. He just looked, unblinkingly, up at China. "You must be new," China continued. "I am China, aru," he said, smiling. "If there is anything that you need to know, aru, then just ask me!" he said, smiling.
"..."
"Aren't you going to say anything, aru?" China wasn't offended, just surprised that the young nation didn't say anything to him.
"Konnichiwa, China-san-from-where-the-sun-sets. I am Japan-from-where-the-sun-rises," the small nation said. China's eye twitched.
"AIYAA! This kid is so RUDE, aru!" he yelled. Japan stared up at him, as though to say,
"Am I older, or are you?"
Well, who was to know?
300 years (or so) after this ;; Japan's betrayal.
China raised Japan for several hundred years, and taught him pretty much everything: how to write, count, everything. Japan always amaed him with his intelligence, and Japan was a friendly little child, if somewhat... stoic.
That was why China wasn't expecting it.
"Japan, aru?" China called, before muttering, "No, no Japan in he- oh, THERE you are, aru!" he said, chuckling, before he noticed his little brother's severe expression. And then fact that there was a katana in his hand (amongst things). "Hmm... Japan, what have I told you about practicing using your Katana, hmm, aru?" China said, tipping his head on one side in a childish manner.
No reply for a second.
"China-san, I am sorry to do this," Japan said, removing his katana fully from its sheath. It took China a second to put two and two together (him. Angry looking Japan. Katana. OH NO!), but when he did, he didn't react.
"Very well Japan, aru. I, too am- ACKH!" He fell to the ground with a thud, and blood poured out of the open wound on to the floor.
When he opened his eyes, Japan was gone.
Not long after Japan's betrayal ;; Discovers that Hong Kong is his illegitimate-half brother.
China stayed in his home for a long time after that, and when he returned to the rest of the world, he discovered that it had changed a lot. For a start, he discovered that he had an illegitimate half-brother, Hong Kong, a quiet young boy.
About 1000 years later ;; Meets Russia.
Russia seemed sweet and kind, but China could tell, right from the beginning, that something was very much wrong with the boy: whether it was the way he laughed or just the way he looked, China wasn't sure about the boy. But they were still friends.
1842 ;; Hong Kong taken as part of the British Empire.
There was a LOT to come.
First off, the British Empire: Japan was right to be over-prepared and to learn to fight; he was so right. England feared him; England didn't come near him.
But he came near China.
There was a war.
China lost.
He lost so sorely...
He lost his little brother, Hong Kong.
China took a long time to recver from that, and, for a while, he was highly introverted, but he recovered. Not quickly, but he recovered. He recovered.
1914-1918 ;; World War One.
But then, there was the First World War.
Yup, that really sucked.
REALLY sucked.
Then again, he didn't get quite so tangled in to it as some of the others did, but he was still involved, but there was a period of peace after that.
1939-1945 ;; World War Two.
Yao got more involved in WW2 than he did in WW1. Not very involved, but he was a part of it, as much as he hated to be involved (being a pacifist, he was unwilling to fight.
Of course, the worst was yet to come, but, at the end of the war, the US dropped the first Atomic Bombs on Japan. China, despite himself, was grealy concerned for his little 'brother', and, even though he had tried to remain indifferent, he found himself worrying about Japan.
A long time ;; The Cold War and Sino-Soviet Split.
And then there was the Cold War.
The Cold War, pretty much, was America and Russia poking each-other and preparing to drop Neuclar Warheards on each-other, and was pretty scary. Lots of stuff happened during that time (the Iron Curtain, to name one thing), but there was also the Sino-Soviet Split.
China's relations with Russia were becoming increasingly strained by this time, and China coming down on the other side of the Iron Curtain hadn't really helped, and so the Sino-Soviet Split ended up happening, and China lost his only friend.
1997 ;; China gets Hong Kong back from the British Empire.
China sailed, miserably, along for a while after that, until 1997, when the British Empire was nearing collapse: they were just keeping a hold of Hong Kong.
But, in 1997, Hong Kong returned to Chinese rule.

Seriously, dernit.
China was completely blind, 'thanks' to England cursing him. Now, he was in a small room (he thought so, at least), his eyes bandaged, and attempting to work out where Hong Kong was, if he was anywhere.
For a second, when he put a hand, his figertips brushed something, but then he lost whatever it was. Cursing himself (and England) under his breath, he got shakily up, remembering the last words England had said to him before he made him blind.
"China, I really don't want you to get any worse injured. Just hold my hand or something; I'll take you back to my house."
China didn't acutally know why he needed to be blind - he knew what had just happened with the Korea twins, him, Hong Kong and Japan; the last thing he remembered was Hong Kong shreiking and something - something searing hot, to be exact - being dragged across his eyes.
Yup. That was going to scar.
Then, England had come in, realized what had just happened and told China, in a very calm, gentle voice, that if he opened his eyes now, he would most likely be blind for the rest of his life (a considerably long time for the Asian nation, given that he was immortal), and had blinded him temporarily, and then gone about getting him back home. China had pretty much blacked out (strange comment or what?) as soon as he got in, and England must have shifted him in to another room so that he could sleep without breaking his neck.
Suddenly, he heard a familiar voice, and, attempting to negotiate the room without being able to see any of it, he got up, leaning over a little and brushing his figertips over the wall.
"H-Hong Kong, aru?" he said uncertainly, finding a door and opening it.
God only knew what it opened on to, though.
Well, China certainly didn't.
Is this kind of life really fun?
