The character this application is going to apply for is Antonio Fernandez Carriedo. He represents Spain. They look twenty five. This character is canon. Their apparent birthday is February 12. This character's sexuality is Pansexual.
Pain, scream I can't say anything ah~ ♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦ Just where is tomorrow's light? Unreasonable world, I don't say anything
Physical Appearance:
Antonio will be the first to admit that he isn’t the most striking of people. Indeed, it is his demeanor that people tend to remember over his physicality, for it is so unique. An air of cheer surrounds him, and it is that which most people tend to notice first about him. His body language always conveys a relaxed, overjoyed feeling, and it actually tends to spill out to others around him. It is rare to see him when he is not smiling, and more often than not, one can expect to be greeted with a bright smile and a friendly ‘hola!’.
He is a tanned individual, his skin permanently kissed from the Spanish sun, and his hair is a rather dark shade of chocolate brown. Bright green eyes are always generally filled with mirth, warmth, and a sort of brotherly affection for those around him. He is of average height, but there is a surprising amount of strength in his body. While he is not terribly muscular by any sense of the word, he is well toned from years of battle and working in his own personal tomato garden. Frequently he is smudged with dirt from work, and though he cleans up rather well he always retains a rather colloquial feel about him.
That isn’t to say he is without his share of scars, however. Having existed for so long and as such a large empire, he is riddled with imperfections and memories of wounds long past. Though it is hard to see from a distance, his body is littered with ragged lines, faded with time, but never forgotten. There are a series of larger, much more intense burn scars that lick up his legs and back as a reminder of his run ins with Arthur Kirkland and the burning of his armada, but he is anything but shy in regards to them. Instead, he seems to have no issue with his body and its marrings, and though he will not always be excited to explain where they came from, he isn’t adverse to admitting that many of them were gotten from exercises in foolish pride.
One of the most prominent things about Antonio is that he wears his heart on his sleeve, and it is very evident in his body language just how he is feeling. While he has the ability to hide some of his more serious thoughts to himself, he does so very poorly, and it is usually easy to tell when he is not his normal, bubbly self. If something has upset him, he is generally lackluster, and though he may smile, it never quite reaches his eyes. Similarly, if he is angered, there is a sharpness about him that is all but palatable in the air, and a hardness of his feature lets one know that things are far more serious than they may originally seem.

Likes: ❂ Warm weather ❂ Turtles ❂ Sleeping ❂ Tomatoes ❂ Gold ❂ Cooking ❂ Dance ❂ The ocean ❂ His former lackeys
Dislikes: ❂ Piracy ❂ Overcast or cool weather ❂ Terrible food ❂ Being considered lazy ❂ Highly serious environments ❂ Needless fighting/cruelty ❂ Being denied his afternoon siesta

Personality: From first appearance, it is very easy to write Antonio off as a simple man with a simplistic lifestyle. His behaviours are charmingly rustic, he doesn’t care for anything considered ‘upper class’, and he does little to nothing to dissuade people’s opinions of him. In short, he is merely happy being himself and nothing more.
‘Being himself’ tends to mean, more or less, being a rather happy-go-lucky ray of sunshine in the midst of the drab existence that is daily life. Antonio’s unfailing cheer is a staple to his personality, and it is a rare sight indeed to see him depressed or down. If anything, it is almost as if he works to keep himself in such good spirits for the benefit of those around him, knowing that if he can brighten their day just a little bit, then it was all worthwhile. He has a penchant for silliness that is rarely seen in nations his age, which shows in both his day to day behaviour and his nation’s festivals themselves (La Tomatina anyone?). While it would seem strange that a former empire would indulge in such things, Antonio takes it all in good stride. After all, there is no point in being too serious, it only leads to mistakes and undue stress.
Unfortunately, his laid-back nature also leads to laziness and the stereotype that he is a slacker. While there is a bit of truth to people’s assumptions, as Antonio is a man that prefers to take life at his own pace. While he is not adverse to work, nor is he apt to put off important things, he subscribes to the idea that it’s better to take things slow and at a comfortable pace rather than work himself into a tizzy all of the time. He takes the concept of relaxation very seriously, as evident by his insistence on daily siestas every afternoon.
While fun and games are a large part of his livelihood, there is also a more serious aspect to him that people tend to overlook. When serious political work is to be done, he snaps into shape, and has proven to be a fairly competent diplomat. However, the fact that he is absolutely, painfully oblivious and unable to read the atmosphere of situations is a bit detrimental to his efforts. Indeed, while Antonio is happy with himself, it is obvious to those who interact with him that subtlety and tact are utterly lost on him. If things aren’t completely obvious and blunt, you can count on him to overlook them, and even if they are, there’s about a fifty percent chance that he probably won’t pick up on anything anyways. Trying to get through to him is generally an exercise in frustration that few find fun to undertake.
He is also an incredibly paternal figure, taking great pleasure in being seen as ‘Boss Spain’. In the past he took care of many younger nations, and those protective, brotherly instincts have not waned over time. If one is important to him, he will fight tooth and nail to protect them, even if it is detrimental to his own health.
That isn’t to say that he is merely a simple man. If anything, Antonio is filled with deep, dark secrets that he shies away from discussing. While is no longer the feared Imperio Español, the mannerisms and the habits he exercised as the feared empire have stayed with him, hidden away from the polite, civil world. He understands that in modern times, there is no place for the devout fanaticism, but the part of him that longs for those more brutal, simpler times will not die, no matter how hard he tries to smother it. It is a voice in the back of his mind, tempting him, wheedling at his self-control and tempting him into behaving as he did in centuries past. The lust for blood and gold still exists, and one would do well to try to avoid sparking his interest over either one. Once a conquistador, always a conquistador
Fears: ❂ The death of anyone close to him: call it what you like, Antonio is a very communal individual, and when those very close to him are injured or (heaven forbid) killed, it affects him greatly. This is partially selfish, as he dislikes the pain it brings him, but it is also a legitimate fear for the safety of his fellow nations.
❂ Abandonment: Antonio has always been a very paternal figure, used to having people around at all times. He simply isn’t sure how he would function if he were completely alone, suffice to say it would probably incite all sorts of mental and emotional breakdowns.
Weaknesses: ❂ Obliviousness: Antonio is chronically, painfully oblivious at points, entirely unable to read the atmosphere in most situations. This leads to him coming across as rather simple in social settings that require even the smallest bit of tact, though he is blissfully unaware of this.
❂ Bleeding heart: He’s a sucker for anyone with a sob story, especially children, and will often times go completely out of his way to help people just because he feels bad for them. Combined with his previously stated oblivious nature, this makes it rather easy for people to prey upon and scam him, if they feel the need to.
❂ Cold weather: While it may seem like a simple thing, he is absolutely unsuited for low temperatures and tends to do poorly when introduced to them.
❂ …Occasionally lazy: Though he will never admit it, Antonio really can be rather hard to motivate at times. He prefers living a full life, slow-paced and filled with comfort rather than taking the initiative on many things. While he may have been a go-getter back in his empire days, recently he is much fonder of not stressing out over every single thing.
Strengths: ❂ Leadership: Wile it wouldn’t appear that he would ever make a competent leader, Antonio has spent centuries as a leader, back during his empire years. Certainly his laid back personality wouldn’t suggest that he knows how to inspire and drive people to things, he is actually quite good at it.
❂ Agricultural knowledge: as obvious as it sounds. Before the apocalypse he was rather skilled in horticulture, and though the conditions aren’t entirely conducive to any sort of farming or gardening currently, he holds out hope that the weather will improve so that he can begin replanting and replenishing the food supply for his people and whomever else is left.
❂ Even tempered: It is incredibly hard to upset Antonio, incredibly, incredibly hard. Threats and insults towards him generally don’t even phase the man, and high stress situations are treated as important, but nothing to grow psychotic over. The one exception to this, however, is if one threatens his former lackeys. Then all bets are off.
Gently melt my shaking heart, And take me to my dream from that day ♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦ I set fire to the wilderness in front of me and just left my moving wishes
I whisper by myself, The one flower in front of me, It says it's "the world" ♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦ And bloomed as if to persuade me, I can't see tomorrow, I don't even want to see it, but right now
History: Prehistory - Iberia: Antonio remembers little from this time, only that he was constantly on the move and surrounded by warring tribes and that he was known as Iberia. Of the few memories that he retains, he finds that memories of watching smiths work bronze and iron are the most prominent, and he is still constantly captivated with them, trying to remember why they were so important. One of the few other things that he is sure of is that he was constantly ill, sick from all of the fighting between tribes and even other precountries.
206 B.C. - Hispana: Rome arrived in what becomes modern day Spain and found a small nation-child and took him under his wing. The child, known as Hispana, took a liking to him and flourished under his guidance for about five hundred years. Unfortunately he was ripped away from Rome and taken by raiders from North Africa. They taught him many artistic things, and Antonio learned quite a bit about architecture from them.
1469 A.D. – Spain: King Ferdinand II and Queen Isabella marry, which united the Christian portions of Spain. Antonio was admittedly hesitant at first about the union, but in time he came to accept, even enjoy, it, as it strengthened him and his monarchy.
1478 – Inquisition: Flexing his newfound power, Antonio began a long streak of religious purging within his country. His memories from this time are filled with blood and self-centric hatred, and yet there is also a sense of perverse joy in the knowledge that he was doing ‘God’s work’. He has tried very hard to bury this part of himself, though he does not deny his previous cruelties anymore than he can deny any other part of his history.
1588 – Loss of Armada: After years of fighting against England for control of the sea, Spain was finally defeated once and for all. While furious, Antonio was unable to recoup his losses, and thusly had to give up on being a sea power.
1701-1714 – War of Spanish Succession: Spain goes to war with itself, both sides aided by outside allies. Antonio was drastically injured as a result, the insanity of having to destroy himself in battle weakening him and his grip on his colonies. He was forced to let the Netherlands, Gibraltar, and many others go, and was heartbroken to see them fall under English rule.
1811-1898 – Further Decline/Spanish American War: Though the great Spanish Empire had already fallen, Antonio’s former colonies continued to rebel against him. As well, he and Alfred were at war for an extended period of time, and due to how weakened he had already become, Antonio ended up losing, thus losing control of even more of his territories. Again, it pained him to see them go, but there was little he could do. He had begun to accept that his time of glory, conquest, and blood was almost over, after all.
1914-1918 – WWI: Spain remained neutral throughout the war, despite a few incidences with Germany. Antonio and his people were already directly worried about war within their own country, and the stress of such was hard to bear for the man. He was ill throughout the war, but tried to keep a strong face.
1931-1936 – Republic: After his old king was forced out, Antonio became a republic for the first time. He was not entirely sure how to feel about that, and it only took five years for his people to rebel, leading to a long a bloody civil war.
1936-1939 – Civil War: Antonio was greatly sickened by the uprising of war between his people, and it was a relief for him when the fighting finally stopped and a new boss was named.
1975 – End of an Era: With the death of his previous boss, Spain became a monarchy again. For the most part he has remained stable since then, and is trying to put more focus on making himself well again for the time being.

A hiss floated through the air, filled with intermittent crackles and pops as the needle of the record player sought purchase upon the record loaded into it. Within moments a symphony of brass, orchestra, and tambourine filled the air, muted by the age of the medium, but still filled with passion and heat that was the very life of España Cañí. Antonio had always liked that piece, ever since he had heard his grandfather play it off of the old records back in Spain. There was just something driving about the beat and the sound of the trumpet, the castanets in the background…glorious. His grandfather had always said it was the spirit of España, that it represented the matadors preparing to take on the bulls in a dance to the death, and he had drank in the story with eager ears and a mind full of imagination.
He sashayed around the room with an invisible partner, twirling and dipping his body as he stepped lightly over the convulsing man whom he had been speaking to only a minute or so before. It had been a routine deal, or at least that was what the client had expected. Cocaine, just as always, and it seemed that the man had forgotten that he had been short on payment the last few times that Antonio had delivered to him. The decision had been made and passed down to the Spaniard, and it hadn’t taken more than a few charming, colloquial words to convince the soon-to-be victim to sample his purchase right then and there.
It had been easy enough to lace the shipment, and though the effect hadn’t been immediate, it was still gratifying to know that it was indeed effective. Antonio looked down at the ground, smiling brightly at the dying man as he continued to whirl around. It was a beautiful thing, it really was, the mixture of life and death. Blood was pounding through his veins with the thrill, the excitement and for that one moment, he was there in the arena, meeting the bull head on, and ready to face those goring horns. The crowd rang in his ears, and he bowed with a flourish, his fantasy all too real within the dingy room. No more was there the rotund, dying man seizing and vomiting only a few yards away from him, the dirty walls, the crackle of the gramophone. Instead, it was the hot sun, the stench of bullsweat, and the dirt beneath his feet. Adrenaline and fear, elation and masochism.
Is this kind of life really fun? ♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦ Until it becomes undone,

I'm sorry this took so long to review, but I'm happy to say this profile is Accepted!
I loved the detail about the dark part of Spain's past and personality, which many the rare few get to talk about. It makes me extremely happy to have that, since I do enjoy reading about it. Your characterization of him is very well done, and I'm happy to finally get to accepting this. While I was slightly confused on the RP Example, since I don't know what was going on, I liked the writing style of it.
I, Enyo, cannot wait to torture your weaknesses until you break. Welcome to Borderline. Movie time is watching your friends die, and it's scheduled to be around 8 tonight. Don't be late!
